BARISAN Nasional’s Johari Abdul Ghani is set to face a three-cornered fight to defend his Titiwangsa constituency against PKR’s Rina Mohd Harun and PAS’s Mohamad Noor Mohamad.
Returning officer Asiah Husin announced at 10.45am that the Election Commission had accepted the trio’s nomination papers.
This was greeted by cheers from supporters outside the nomination hall.
In 2013, Johari narrowly defended his seat against PAS’s Ahmad Zamri Asa’ad Khuzami by a mere 866 votes.
Candidates are expected to bring up long-standing issues of land heritage here, namely those of the Kampung Baru and Kampung Keramat Malay reserve land as well as the Kampung Pandan Indian settlement.
“(Concerning) land heritage at the Indian settlement in Kampung Pandan… about 95% (of residents) have already received their lots,” Johari said at the nomination centre.
“I have already made it 0% squatters in Kampung Pandan today.”
PAS’s Noor said he would focus on development in Kampung Baru, and maintain businesses in Kampung Keramat.
“We are aware of the PPR (People’s Housing Project) problem in Kampung Pandan, and will ensure that (residents) will have proper houses and parking,” said Noor, who is the PAS state commissioner.
PKR’s Rina, on the other hand, said she would focus on healthcare and education if she won the seat.
As of April 10, the Election Commission’s figures show 61,598 registered voters in Titiwangsa, with 70.49% being Malay, 17.30% Chinese, and 9.42% Indians. – April 28, 2018.
