BERSATU’S candidate for the Johor state seat of Bukit Pasir (N8) was disqualified by returning officer Zainor Adani this morning.

Following Pizi Jihat’s disqualification, the seat will see a straight fight between PAS’ Najib Leib and Barisan Nasional’s Noriah Marhan.

Zainor made the announcement at 11.40am, after announcing the candidates for the Pagoh federal seat (P143) and Bukit Kepong state seat (N7).

Asked why Pizi was disqualified, Zainor declined to comment.

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin told reporters that he will hold a press conference on Pizi’s disqualification.

Muhyiddin, who is also Pakatan Harapan deputy president, will defend the Pagoh seat against his former deputy from Umno, Ismail Mohamed, and 34-year-old PAS candidate Ahmad Nawfal Mahfodz.

In the last elections, Muhyiddin beat PAS’ Mohamad Rozali Jamil by 12,842 votes, and won 64.8% of the popular vote.

Muhyiddin first won the seat in 1978, before moving to the state seat of Bukit Serampang (1986-1995).

Upon his return to federal politics in 1995, he held the Pagoh seat for five straight terms.

In Bukit Kepong, there will be a three-cornered fight between PH’s Shahrudin Jamal, PAS’ Mohd Nor Iqbal Abdul Razak and Barisan Nasional’s Mohd Nor Taib. – April 28, 2018.
