PARTI Warisan Sabah supporters outnumbered Barisan Nasional’s numbers in Semporna today as more than 3,000 people from the opposition party accompanied Shafie Apdal to the nomination centre where the party president filed papers to defend the parliamentary seat.
A supporter, Halim Hamid from Tagasan, said the big turnout was a sign that Sabahans had rejected Umno Sabah led by caretaker chief minister Musa Aman.
“The time has come for Sabah to change. Musa and Barisan Nasional should be afraid of our numbers,” he said as the supporters waved Warisan flags while marching to the nomination centre.
The crowd gathered at 6am outside the Semporna Warisan office. They then marched with Shafie and other candidates from Sempora Stadium to the nomination centre.
Shafie will face candidates from BN, PAS and local party Parti Kebangsaan Sabah (PKS) in the elections.
BN is fielding state finance assistant minister Ramle Marhaban against Shafie. Ramlee was accompanied by about 1,500 supporters.
Shafie, a former federal minister, has managed to attract huge numbers of supporters since quitting Umno in July 2016 after openly criticising Prime Minister Najib Razak over alleged corruption involving 1Malaysia Development Bhd. – April 28, 2018.
