ALL ministers’ political secretaries have called for Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin to be suspended over his rude remarks about Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar’s political secretary Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin said he and his counterparts would submit a letter to Law and Institutional Reform Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said by October 6 about the matter.
“Radzi’s behaviour was unacceptable. You can criticise and have different views, but don’t insult,” Shamsul said after an event in Batu Caves today.
Last week, Shamsul said Radzi must be punished for insulting Anwar and for his refusal to adhere to a directive by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul during the debate on the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review.
He said it was simply unacceptable for a former minister to go against the Rukun Negara principle of politeness and decency.
“Radzi’s rude actions that were broadcast nationwide cannot be ignored.”
Shamsul said Johari followed all procedures under Dewan Rakyat provisions, including asking Anwar to clarify what he meant by “Putrajaya administration” in referring to the previous government.
“It was clear the Putrajaya MP misunderstood the meaning of Anwar’s statement by thinking ‘Putrajaya’ was a reference to (the former). The speaker had accepted the clarification under regulation 99 (of the Dewan Rakyat’s Standing Orders).
“If not satisfied, the Putrajaya MP could have put forward a resolution, but the speaker’s directive was ignored and (Radzi) was acting on his own emotions. He also lost his discipline, morals and respect for the House and disrupted the debate wind-up for 20 minutes,” he said.
During the session and after an emotional outburst, Radzi was ordered to leave the Dewan Rakyat for continuing to argue with Johari about Anwar’s statement, with the Putrajaya MP claiming his image was tarnished and repeatedly asking Johari to urge Anwar to retract his statement. – September 28, 2023.
