THE Sabah government led by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has achieved many successes related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) in the first two years of its administration.

Chief Minister Hajiji Noor said several milestones have been achieved, including in the oil and gas sector, and the state government will maximise its good relations and understanding with the federal government to ensure that MA63 will be implemented as best as possible.

“The achievements under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development blueprint include the economic development sector, where trade hit a record high of RM118.1 billion compared to RM87.2 billion in 2021.

“The 35.4% increase is the result of positive economic growth and I’m convinced our trade revenue will continue to rise. Sabah has also managed to attract over RM33 billion in investments and obtained RM7 billion in revenue – the highest achievement since independence,” he said as part of his speech read by Deputy Chief Minister II Joachim Gunsalam at the Sabah state-level Malaysia Day celebrations at Merdeka Square, Kota Kinabalu, which was officiated by Sabah Yang di-Pertua Juhar Mahiruddin.

Hajiji said the state government would intensify efforts to boost investment opportunities that would benefit various development sectors in the state and help solve long-standing public issues.

Sabah has enjoyed development and progress in various aspects 60 years after the formation of Malaysia, adding that the nation-building process did not happen in the blink of the eye but due to the efforts of various leaders who overcame various challenges and obstacles to realise the vision, he said.

Therefore, it is the duty of every Malaysian to defend the peace, prosperity and harmony that the country has enjoyed for so long, Hajiji added. – Bernama, September 16, 2023.
