PERIKATAN Nasional is set to hold its “Save Malaysia” rally in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, on Saturday.
In a statement issued today, the rally secretariat said the location was decided following a meeting last night.
“A meeting held last night in Kuala Lumpur agreed to form a secretariat committee for the Save Malaysia rally, which will be more inclusive in efforts to restore the integrity and dignity of the country, which has been tainted by the dropping of corruption charges against Deputy Prime Minister (Ahmad) Zahid Hamidi.
“The secretariat is formed of a combination political parties, NGOs, and individuals who share the same principles,” the statement read..
It is unclear whether the organiser has applied to the police for a permit to hold the rally.
The organiser urged Malaysians who oppose corruption to assemble in large numbers for afternoon prayers at Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru.
The secretariat said politicians and activist groups will attend the assembly.
Yesterday, the police said they had not received an application for a permit to hold the rally in the capital city on Saturday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Allaudeen Abdul Majid the law required that the application for the permit to be made at least five days before the event.
Allaudeen said that so far, police have received six reports regarding the proposed gathering organised by Perikatan Nasional Youth.
Police have recorded statements from five people, including PN MPs Ahmad Fadhli Shaari and Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, to assist in the investigation, he said.
Police also too the statements of Gombak Setia assemblyman Hilman Idham and two journalists who covered Fadhli’s press conference about the rally. – September 14, 2023
