MUHYIDDIN Yassin today took a conciliatory tone in the debate over Pakatan Harapan’s prime minister-designate, 24 hours before a pivotal meeting that could decide his party’s future in the coalition.
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president made it clear that his party was not against PH’s choice of Anwar Ibrahim to be the prime minister should the opposition defeat Barisan Nasional in the general election.
He also attempted to dial down some of the verbal missives that have been publicly exchanged between members of the opposition bloc.
“I think it is best not to discuss it until we (PH) have reached a decision.
“This issue has created a lot of misunderstanding and gives the impression that the opposition parties are not united,” Muhyiddin told reporters today.
While PH has named jailed de facto PKR leader Anwar as its choice for prime minister, uncertainty has surfaced over Anwar’s candidacy after some parties questioned the choice.
The Malaysian Insight reported yesterday that DAP has also found it hard to choose between Anwar and Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Muhyiddin said a resolution will give a strong signal to the electorate that PH has the candidate capable of being the next PM.
“I believe a huge portion of the people can no longer stand Barisan Nasional (BN).
“The people need someone they can trust to lead the country,” said the former deputy prime minister. – June 8, 2017.
