MALAYSIAN chef Seet Wai Song has completed his journey from Kuala Lumpur to Stuttgart, Germany while raising funds for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia.
The 65-year-old undertook the self-funded journey in his 1974 custom-painted 50-year-old Mercedes-Benz W115.
His journey started on July 3, which saw him driving across 21 countries in 56 days.
The journey ended on Sunday, August 27, by which time Seet had covered 20,000km.
Better known as chef Song, Seet hopes people will appreciate his initiative and donate to the cause as he had previously helped raise funds for the civil society organisation.
According to the crowdfunding site, Seet has managed to collect RM8,703 to date. To donate, visit https://tinyurl.com/2p8kse82.
Seet wants his trip to inspire all Malaysians to travel and promote the country abroad.
“I wish all Malaysians a happy Merdeka Day. Take this opportunity to travel and promote Malaysia.
“My trip is an inspiration for people to see the world. I want to encourage everyone to do it and I am proud to tell the story of Malaysia to all people,” Seet told The Malaysian Insight.
Seet said he planned the journey years ago but had to put it on hold when the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
“Six months ago, I started planning the journey again. It took a lot of effort to plan the logistics.
“I then told my wife and two children about it. Initially, they were sceptical but after looking at the plans, they were supportive.”
While he was away, his wife managed their catering business, Chef on Wheels.

Seet said another reason he went on this trip was because he enjoyed driving and visiting new places.
“I guess everyone has something they want to do like skydiving, diving, and other adventurous activities.
“This was what I wanted to do, which is driving. I had a lot of encouragement and at the same time, I wanted to promote cancer awareness.”
Seet faced no major challenges except for language issues in countries where English was not spoken.
He said the journey was very inspiring as he got to meet so many people from all walks of life.
“I brought a lot of fridge magnets, especially with the Petronas Twin Towers design, to give away.
“It was also a conversation piece to break the communication barrier. It was given out to promote Malaysia.”
As for his trusty car, Seet said the vehicle was perfect and had never given him any problems.
“Except for the exhaust, which got damaged as some roads were uneven. It was a minor issue as I got it welded and carried on,” he said.
Next, he plans to go to Switzerland, France, and the United Kingdom.
“Along the way, I plan to meet my friends and once I reach Wales, I will fly home and the car will be shipped back.
“I should be back in Malaysia around mid-September.” – August 30, 2023.
