EIGHT families of those who died in a plane crash on the Guthrie Corridor Expressway near Elmina in Shah Alam on August 17 will receive compensation from the Social Security Organisation (Socso), Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar said.
He said one beneficiary will receive the Survivors’ Pension Benefit under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969.
“Another beneficiary is eligible to receive two benefits – the Dependents’ Benefit under the Self-Employed Social Security Scheme Act 2017 and Survivors’ Pension Benefit under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969.
“However, two families will not receive Socso benefits because one of them was a civil servant and the other did not contribute to the scheme,” he said in a statement today.
Sivakumar said Socso managed the funeral arrangements of seven victims under the Funeral Management Benefit of the 1969 act, while payment to another dependent has been delayed as there was no response from the family.
On August 17, Pahang Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Johari Harun was among 10 people who perished in the plane crash.
The 10 comprised five passengers and two crewmembers, while the remaining two were a p-hailing rider and an e-hailing driver travelling along the expressway. – Bernama, August 23, 2023.
