THE Higher Education Ministry is considering introducing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) degree programmes in polytechnics.

Higher Education Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said his ministry is considering implementing this proposal under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).

“We will pay attention to TVET with regard to … skilling, reskilling and upskilling. Our focus is to see the matching of learning with work and better salary,” he said.

He told reporters this after attending the ministry’s “Program Kekal Sihat KPT Prihatin Madani” in Tanjung Sedili, Kota Tinggi, today.

He said the ministry is determined to expand courses and attract more students to take up TVET.

“I have said in 13MP in particular, I want to see an expansion in opening of branch campuses, especially in the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN), and we will further strengthen existing polytechnics,” he said.

MTUN comprises Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn, Universiti Malaysia Perlis and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka. – Bernama, August 19, 2023.
