SARAWAK Yang di-Pertua Negeri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s wife, Raghad Kurdi Taib, has sought more time to file submissions to her stepsons’ affidavits, her lead counsel told the Kuching High Court today.

Shankar Ram Asnani told High Court judge Alexander Siew during the pre-trial case management hearing that he had difficulty communicating with Raghad as she had to be by Taib’s side in a hospital in Istanbul.

Shankar said he had difficulty contacting her as she would often be in hospital to look after Taib.

In the ongoing courtroom battle of the Taibs, Shankar had sought 14 days to file the submissions to Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib and Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib’s affidavits for a court injunction to stop the transfer of shares from Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd to Raghad.

He also told the court that he needed the time since some of Sulaiman’s supplementary affidavits were only served yesterday.

The court gave Shankar only 10 days and ordered the submissions to be made by August 25.

Sulaiman and Bekir have also named RHB Investment Bhd as the second defendant in their civil suit against their stepmother.

They are Taib’s sons from his first marriage to a Polish woman, Laila, who died of cancer in 2009. – August 15, 2023.
