SELANGOR Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Mohamed Azmin Ali will lead the coalition’s charge by contesting in Hulu Kelang in the Selangor elections.
The former Selangor menteri besar, who was Bukit Antarabangsa incumbent for three terms, will face former Bukit Melawati assemblyman Juwairiya Zulkifli of PKR.
The Malay-majority constituency was held by Amanah’s Saari Sungib for three consecutive terms until he declined reelection due to health issues.
Azmin is no stranger to the Hulu Kelang seat, as he won it in 1999 before losing it to Barisan Nasional in 2004.
He was menteri besar from 2014 to 2018 and held Bukit Antarabangsa for three terms since 2008, when he was still in PKR.
PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin announced Azmin’s candidacy in Taman Medan tonight.
Muhyiddin said Bersatu will contest 31 seats, PAS (17), and Gerakan (8).

The PN chairman announced Bersatu women’s chief Rina Harun as Batu Tiga candidate. The former women, family and community development minister lost the Sepang parliamentary seat in last year’s general election.
Amanah is fielding Danial Al Rashid in Batu Tiga, while Muda’s candidate is Saiyidah Izzati Nur Razak Maideen.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Anwar Ibrahim earlier said the Batu Tiga seat, previously held by former Selangor exco Rodziah Ismail, would be handed over to Amanah.
Muhyiddin said Bersatu vice-president Abdul Rashid Asari will defend his Selat Kelang incumbency.
PN is also fielding former entrepreneur development and cooperative minister Noh Omar’s daughter, Nurul Syazwani Noh, in Permatang.
PN held five seats in the assembly before it was dissolved – Bersatu with four seats and PAS with one.
PH had 40 seats (PKR: 19 seats, DAP: 15, Amanah: 6), Barisan Nasional held five, and Parti Bangsa Malaysia held two. Pejuang and Warisan had one each, along with one Independent.
