OPPOSITION leader Hamzah Zainudin finds the police claim that they could not reach Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor baffling as the caretaker Kedah menteri besar has a bodyguard provided by the force.
Police had earlier said they could reach Sanusi, which led to his 3am arrest.
In a Facebook post, Hamzah said the police claim did not make sense.
“This claim does not make sense at all, because the police have assigned one of their own to be with the menteri besar as a bodyguard,” he said.
“The police could have just asked Sanusi’s bodyguard of his whereabouts at any time.”
Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said Sanusi was arrested at 3am at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur because the police could not locate him ahead of his court appearance.
He said the police had tried to track him down in Kedah and then at Astro Awani in Kuala Lumpur where he was to attend an interview, but failed to locate him.
Razarudin also said numerous calls made to Sanusi, his senior private secretary and political secretary were “rejected”.
“Since we could not reach him, we tried to find him, and we found him at 2.30am in Mont Kiara,” he said at a press conference.
“He was arrested to ensure that he attended court (Selayang Sessions Court) to hear the two charges against him.
“We were afraid that he wouldn’t attend court today, that’s why we took action.”
Yesterday, Sanusi claimed trial to two charges of sedition.
In the first charge, he is accused of making a seditious comment regarding the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar.
Sanusi is alleged to have incited discontent or disaffection among the subjects of the Selangor ruler by making the remarks.
In an other court, Sanusi was charged with sedition in relation to the king.
He was reported to have questioned if the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had indeed decreed that a unity government be formed after the November general election.
Both offences are alleged to have been committed at the same ceramah in Simpang 4, Taman Selayang Mutiara-Kampung Bendahara, Gombak, at 11pm, on July 11. – July 19, 2023.
