POLICE have arrested Jasmine Loo Ai Swan, a former associate of businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.

He said Loo was arrested and remanded on Friday.

Loo was a former lawyer with 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and had an Interpol Red Notice for her arrest.

Saifuddin told a press conference today that Loo is believed to have information on the 1MDB scandal.

“Her lawyer has stated that she is ready to offer her cooperation to the police and government,” he said.

Saifuddin said the investigation is being carried out under section 409 of the penal code for criminal breach of trust.

He declined to disclose where Loo was arrested.

Loo and five others, including Low, were charged in absentia with money laundering over transactions involving Low’s company, Good Star Ltd, and 1MDB’s predecessor, Terengganu Investment Authority, in December 2018.

Loo was charged with two counts of money laundering over US$6 million received in a Swiss account she controlled.

At the time, she was 1MDB’s general counsel and executive director of group strategy, and is alleged to have committed the offences on December 6, 2012 and July 1, 2014.

It was reported that the US$6 million was money diverted from the first two 1MDB bond offerings underwritten by Goldman Sachs. – July 12, 2023.
