DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang today said he will not accept any apology from Annuar Musa for linking him to the May 13, 1969 race riots.

He said he had instructed his lawyers to insist on compensation for defaming him.

He said Annuar, who is now with PAS, was emulating PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang in making wild, preposterous and unsubstantiated allegations against him and DAP.

Lim said the former Ketereh MP had first linked him to the race riots, and now had made new allegations that DAP went against Islamic values.

“This is another example of the lies, falsehood, fake news and hate speech which PAS under Hadi’s leadership is spreading in the coming elections in the six states,” he said in a statement.

“I have instructed my lawyers not to accept Annuar’s apology and to insist on compensation for defaming me.”

Two days ago, Lim said he was ready to sue Annuar for associating him with the race riots.

He has categorically denied being involved in the incident.

Annuar has reportedly accused Lim of stoking racial tensions in 1969, at a PAS ceramah in Bachok, Kelantan.

In another PAS ceramah last night, Annuar challenged Lim to proceed with the legal action against him.

He also repeated his remarks linking the former Iskandar Puteri MP to the race riots.

“We hear Lim Kit Siang wants to sue me. Send my regards to him. He is suing the wrong person,” he said.

“I urge him to speed up the process to sue me. I have more materials and will submit it if I am sued.”

Lim said DAP had always fielded candidates representing all races and religions, right from its first general election foray in 1969.

“We have today two Malay/Muslim MPs, apart from several state assemblymen and women in the various states,” he said.

He also said DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng had sacrificed his Kota Melaka parliamentary seat and went to jail in defence of the honour and dignity of an underage Malay girl in 1989.

“Has any PAS leader made any sacrifices for any underage Malay girl, let alone a Malaysian girl of another race or religion?” he asked. – July 9, 2023.
