January-July dengue cases up 139% from 2022 period, says MOH

THE number of dengue cases from January to July this year grew 139% with 59,057 cases compared with 24,743 in the same period last year.

Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said in the same period, deaths due to dengue reportedly rose by 122%, involving 40 fatalities compared with eight last year. 

“In Selangor, 29,382 cases were reported from January to July 2 this year, compared with 15,207 cases recorded in the same period last year, an increase of 93%, while seven deaths due to dengue fever complications have been reported in the state so far.

“The Gotong Royong Mega Perangi Aedes 1.0 programme held today is an initiative by the Health Ministry (MOH) and will be organised twice a year with the participation of all agencies and communities in eliminating Aedes breeding grounds,” she said after officiating the Madani Afiat programme in Dewan Rakyat Batu Caves today. 

She said to ensure the community consistently destroys Aedes breeding grounds, the MOH has introduced the One-Hour Malaysia Clean Up programme. – Bernama, July 9, 2023.
