LONG-SERVING DAP member Ronnie Liu has decided to quit the party after 41 years, citing partisan politics.
The Sungai Pelek assemblyman, however, said he will continue to support Pakatan Harapan and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
“My heart is still with PH and Malaysia Madani. I will support Anwar, always.
“I remain a PH supporter. But no more partisan politics for me,” Liu said in a statement.
Yesterday, he posted on Facebook the content of a letter addressed to DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke announcing his intention to leave the party.
In October last year, Liu said he was quitting the party but did not give any time frame.
Liu served in the Selangor government on its Local Government, Research and Development Executive Council after the then Pakatan Rakyat captured the state government in 2008.
He won the Pandamaran state seat in the election that year but was dropped by the party in the 2013 general election.
However, Liu made a comeback in the last general election and captured the Sungai Pelek state seat.
His departure follows what is believed to be strained ties with the party’s leadership over the last year. – June 23, 2023.
