SARAWAK police have deployed more that 100 officers and men, including members of the Tiger platoon of the General Operations Force, in the second day of their hunt for two Indonesians who escaped from their lock-up in the small agricultural town of Tapah, some 30km from Kuching.
The two, aged 21 and 31, who had been in detention since June 7 over “immigration-related offences”, made their dash for freedom at around 1pm yesterday.
Sarawak police commissioner Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, in a media update today, said the search area had been widened and tracker dogs from the Fire and Rescue Services Department had also been roped in.
He said drones were also used to assist those on the ground.
Police have also begun searching cars at roadblocks on roads leading to the border – the most likely destination of the fugitives.
The roads are in Kota Samarahan, Bau, Lubok Antu and Sri Aman. – June 13, 2023.
