BN will bribe candidates and shower gifts in GE14, says Dr Mahathir

BRIBING Pakatan Harapan candidates and splurging voters with gifts are among the tactics Barisan Nasional will use in the 14th general election, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

These were why the opposition coalition was not announcing most of its candidates ahead of time, the opposition pact chairman said at a ceramah at Felda Sg Tengi in Selangor last night.

“(Najib) will send his people with millions to bribe our candidates, to convince them not to show up onnomination day,” said the former prime minister, who now heads PH component party Bersatu as chairman.

“This will allow BN to win uncontested. That is why we cannot announce our candidates ahead of time.”

He highlighted the tactic of holding lucky draws and competitions – events which tended to follow visits by PH leaders to an area.

“After I visit people, the next day, Najib will come bearing gifts because he believes that cash is king. There will be lucky draws where you can win houses and money.”

“It gets to the point that people will tell me to visit them more often so that they can get even more gifts,” said Dr Mahathir.

Dr Mahathir told the crowd that if this occurred, they should just accept the gifts.

“After all, it is all our money. The thief just stole it from us. You can take the gifts and you don’t need to vote for him. You do not owe the thief anything.”

His speech last night was peppered with messages he and other PH leaders had been repeating – that Najib was a “thief” and that BN would use underhanded tactics to unfairly tilt the election in the ruling coalition’s favour.

Dr Mahathir, who is PH’s prime minister-designate, had also recently said GE14 would be the dirtiest.

Despite a recent bout of ill-health, the social media savvy 93-year-old has been giving speeches and making appearances at events as he leads PH in the charge for GE14.

Last night, he told the Felda crowd of tactics such as electoral roll manipulation and abuse of the postal vote system.

“The electoral roll has individuals with the same name who were born on the same date but in different states. There also addresses which say that a house is occupied by 70 voters, but when checked only have two residents.”

“The BN is also using a postal ballot system that is not transparent and is open to abuse,” he said.

Dr Mahathir also deplored BN’s fearmongering among senior civil servants.

“(Najib) told senior civil servants that he could trace how they voted. That he could take action against those who voted against (BN).

“But our votes are secret so how can Najib trace them? At the same time, how can he take action against senior civil servants if he loses?”

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu urged Felda settlers and rural Malays not to be intimidated by BN’s racist sentiments.

“He says that if PH takes over, DAP will rule the country, and the Chinese will take over,” said Mohamad.

“But we have announced that if we win, Dr Mahathir will be Prime Minister and Wan Azizah (Wan Ismail) will be deputy prime minister. Both of whom are Malays, so this blunts their claim.” – March 24, 2018.

  • A gift is something you give with the intention that the ones who receives it will be happy to receive it, with the hope that the one who receives it will remember you well, and without wishing that they will return what you gave them. .

A donation is something you give with the intention that the one who receives will be happy to receive it, without the hope that the one who receives it remember you, and without wishing that they will return what you gave them. .

A loan is something you give without the intention the ones who receives it will be happy to receive it, with hopes that the one who receives it will remember you even if they don't remember you well, while wishing that they will return what you gave them.

A bribe is something you give with the intention that the one who receives it will be happy to receive it, with hopes that the one who receives it will remember you well, while wishing that they will return what you gave them.

Malaysians have a tendency of using words without really understanding what they mean , but this is too much. If we cant even understand the meaning of such simple words like gifts and donations and bribe, how in the world will we know how what it is ours and what is not and what we should give and what we should give not and what we should receive and what we should receive not. How in the world are we going to tell the difference between a donation and a bribe or a a gift and loans when we don't even know what they are? Thats my first quarrel.

My second quarrel is with Dr Mahathir saying that the opposition can't reveal the names of the opposition candidates ahead of time because "(Najib) will send his people with millions to bribe our candidates, to convince them not to show up nomination day" is ridiculous. If you think your people can't be trusted to fall to the temptation of najib's bribe, why are you even considering them as a candidates in the first place? Is there really no one in your team that you don't think will fall under the sway of Najib's bribe? If you can't even find 200 something people who can be trusted not to fall to the temptation of bribes, how in the world is anyone supposed to trust your team ?

My third quarrel is with Dr Mahathir encouraging people to take the money that najib will shower on them by reasoning that “After all, it is all our money. The thief just stole it from us. You can take the gifts and you don’t need to vote for him. You do not owe the thief anything”. How the hell do you take the money that someone offers you as a bribe and relabel it as a gift on your own accord. And even if you did relabel it as a gift on your own accord, how in the world do you receive a gift without thinking well of the giver, and if you don't think well of the giver, should you even take the gift? Why must such a simple thing be made so confusing and complicated. Why cant we just if you think it is a bribe, don't take it , and be done with it? Isn't that simple and clear? Why must we always choose the complicated and confusing way when there is simpler and clearer way available to us ? What is wrong with us?

This article is one depressing read. After i read it i am to the opinion that the government bribes, the opposition leader is confused and complicated, the voters can't tell the difference between a gift and a loan or a bribe and a donation and the election candidates can't be trusted to not be tempted by bribes even by their own side. We seem t be one shit country to me.
