THE number of dengue cases rose by 7.9% to 2,638 cases from May 21 to 27, compared with 2,444 cases reported the previous week.
Health Director-General Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said three deaths were recorded in the same period.
He said there have been 46,257 dengue cases this year, compared with 17,496 cases recorded in the same period last year, which is an increase of 164.4%.
There were 31 deaths due to dengue complications reported this year, compared with 10 in the same period last year, he said in a statement today.
Dr Radzi said 72 hotspots were reported last week compared with 77 the previous week, with 53 in Selangor, eight in Penang, five in Sabah, four each in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, and one each in Kedah and Perak.
He said there were three chikungunya cases last week – two in Selangor and one in Kedah – adding up to 134 infections this year.
Dr Radzi said 1,139 blood and 53 urine samples screened for Zika were negative for the virus.
He said the number of dengue cases within 200m and the outbreak status of an area can be seen on the iDengue app or the iDengue website. – Bernama, June 2, 2023.
