BERSATU president Muhyiddin Yassin today welcomed Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s offer to work together again.

He said the move is timely as current political developments have resulted in Malays and Muslims being at a crossroads.

“I welcome Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s statement that he is willing to work with me for the sake of Malay and Muslim unity.

“I am aware recent political developments have put Malays and Muslims in this country at a bitter crossroads,” said Muhyiddin in a statement today.

Dr Mahathir, who is a founding member of Bersatu, left the party following an internal dispute about the Sheraton Move, which saw the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government in February 2020.

He then formed Pejuang, a Malay-based party that he had left earlier this year.

Dr Mahathir is now busy promoting his “Malay Proclamation” movement to gather Malay support.

Muhyiddin, who is Pagoh MP, said his party is ready to cooperate with any Malay and Muslim figure who shares the agenda of his party and Perikatan Nasional.

“As a Muslim, I am personally ready to work with all Malay and Muslim figures, including Dr Mahathir, for the sake of defending religion, race and country,” said Muhyiddin.

Dr Mahathir in an interview with the MalaysiaNow portal expressed his willingness to work with Muhyiddin.

He said cooperation can occur if both of them can achieve the same goal.

He said efforts to fight for Malays’ fate should be made a main goal in addition to rejecting those involved in corruption or criminal misconduct. – June 2, 2023.
