A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy who drove his father’s car for 2.5km before crashing it in Langkawi told police that he learnt to drive from watching videos on Youtube,
Utusan Malaysia reported that the boy had also learnt how to handle a vehicle from watching his father drive.
Langkawi district police chief Shariman Ashari no driving simulator in the boy’s home as alleged on social media.
“The picture that went viral is not of the boy driving and crashing a Toyota Vios,” he was quoted as saying in the report.
Last Tuesday a boy crashed a car into lamp post after returning from a shop with his three-year-old brother.
At the same time, a video of a white car crashing went viral on social media.
Police had confirmed that the boy had demonstrated that he knew how to start the engine, change gears, and pull the handbrake.
Shariman added the probe was almost completed and that the case would be handed over to the state prosecution director for further action.
“So far police have recorded statements from the boy’s parents and five others – three witnesses at the scene, the policeman who went to the site of the crash, and the boy’s grandfather.
“The boy will be referred to the child interview centre at the Kedah police headquarters to have his full statement taken.” – May 13, 2023.
