A CROCODILE attacked a 58 year-old fisherman while he was in his boat in the latest fatal crocodile attack in Sarawak.

The Kampung Boom Oya villager, who authorities identified as Roslin Mandie, was paddling along Sungai Batang Oya at 10.30pm yesterday to catch prawns when he was attacked.

His fishing companion, Mohd Shyukkriman Jerawi who was in another boat, said he heard Roslin screaming for help.

Shyukkriman told search and rescue personnel that when he reached Roslin’s boat, he was not in it, but caught in the beam of his torchlight was a crocodile with Roslin in its mouth swimming away.

After raising the alarm and not wanting to waste time waiting for the authorities to organise a SAR, Kampung Boom Oya villagers immediately mounted a search.

After scouring the river for hours, they found Roslin’s body at around 12.30am. – May 6, 2023.
