PETALING Jaya remained the only city in the country recording an unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) today.

According to the Air Pollution Index Management System, the reading was at 114 as of 7pm.

Petaling Jaya has been reporting an unhealthy API reading since 7am today.

A reading of 0-50 is good, 51-100 (moderate), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very unhealthy) and 300 and above (hazardous).

The API reading in Segamat, Johor was in the unhealthy bracket from 12pm to 5pm and the air quality reading dropped to moderate at 6pm.

However, its API reading was relatively high at 98.

Eight monitoring stations recorded good API readings, with five of them in Sabah and Sarawak.

Tanjung Malim in Perak, Kota Tinggi in Johor, Temerloh in Pahang, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Kimanis in Sabah, and Kapit and Sarikei in Sarawak recorded good API readings.

Air quality is moderate in the rest of the country.

The peninsula is currently experiencing hot and smoggy weather.

Last week, Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said this was because of peat fires and open burning. – April 22, 2023.
