LUQMAN Long, the information chief of youth-based Muda party, confirmed he has resigned as Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh’s special functions officer (strategy).

Luqman recently courted controversy after he took aim at Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim over his plans to host Raya open houses in the PAS-led states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.

Anwar will also attend three Raya open houses in Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan, organised by the state governments.

These states are set to hold their elections soon.

“Imagine the reaction if (former prime minister) Ismail Sabri (Yaakob) had organised Hari Raya celebrations across six, seven states,” Luqman had tweeted.

In a tweet last night, Luqman said his quitting had nothing to do with the tweet.

“I informed (the ministry) of my resignation in the first week of April. I’ve given a month’s notice and the office is well aware of this,” he said.

“Chaos erupted when I brought up the open house matter. Just sit back and eat kuih Raya,” Luqman said in a tweet, responding to claims that he quit after backlash from his attack on Anwar.

Earlier, Free Malaysia Today quoted an aide to Yeoh as saying Luqman had tendered his resignation.

“He did not state why he is resigning,” the aide said.

It is understood Luqman was appointed to the post in December after Yeoh became youth and sports minister. – April 22, 2023.
