PRIVACY Club Tun Razak, which has received bad press over its coming launch featuring men in female underwear”, is under investigation for licensing requirements, the prime minister’s political secretary said today.

Azman Abidin said his office had received reports on the nightclub’s March 30 opening, which will feature muscular male performers from Thailand clad in lingerie.

PAS has complained about the opening event, calling it a promotion of “hedonistic culture and promiscuity”.

Azman said initial investigations by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) found the club premises in Jalan Tun Razak were licensed for a restaurant. The licence holder was Beijing 9 Sdn Bhd.

The licence expired February 4, 2021.

“The premises also do not have an entertainment licence or any other form of licence or approval for entertainment activities,” Azman said in a statement.

“DBKL is in the process of taking enforcement action to check for licensing or regulation breaches by the organisers,” he said in a statement.

This morning, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan urged the authorities to act against the nightclub for “immoral” acts ahead of the fasting month.

He also questioned the club’s use of a late prime minister’s name.

“Such an act is most insensitive and irresponsible, and amounts to insulting the good name of the country’s leader,” said Takiyuddin in a statement.

A post on the nightclub’s Facebook page announced a grand opening on March 30.

“You now don’t have to go to Thailand because they’re coming to Malaysia… Surrounded by a bunch of handsome guys in super sexy pyjamas,” said a post in Chinese.

Meanwhile, Umno Youth chief Muhammad Akmal Saleh said party members will report the event to the police today.

“If the organisers refuse to cancel the show, we (Umno Youth) will go to the event ourselves and cancel it. We don’t need people who don’t know how to respect our sensitivities,” the Merlimau assemblyman said in a Facebook post accompanied by images promoting the event. – March 22, 2023.
