BERSATU president Muhyiddin Yassin today challenged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to probe into the sources of PKR and Umno’s funds in the same way it had investigated his party.

Muhyiddin, who is also the Perikatan Nasional chairman, claimed most of the political parties that had previously been in government received political funds, and that the MACC should not only scrutinise Bersatu.

“I want to challenge the MACC to investigate Anwar Ibrahim and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. They are the president of PKR and Umno respectively. Investigate where PKR and Umno’s income comes from.

“Don’t they also receive political funds from businessmen?” said Muhyiddin, when delivering a policy speech in conjunction with the Bersatu’s annual general meeting in Kuala Lumpur, today.

“Many reports have been made by members of our party for the MACC to investigate the source of these parties’ funds.

“But only Bersatu was investigated, only me as president of Bersatu was charged.

“Other parties and other party presidents are exempted from investigation and prosecution, isn’t this a form of selective political prosecution?” said Muhyiddin.

On Friday, Muhyiddin was charged with four counts of power abuse in receiving RM232.5 million in gratification, to which he pleaded not guilty. He also denied two counts of money laundering, totalling RM195 million.

He is accused of using his position as the then prime minister and as Bersatu president to obtain RM232.5 million from three companies and an individual, between March 1, 2020, and August 20, 2021.

Muhyiddin is also accused of receiving RM120 million from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd between February 25, 2021, and July 8, 2022.

The judge granted the Pagoh MP a RM2 million bail. He later claimed he had to borrow money to post his bail.

Muhyiddin is due to face an additional charge in a Shah Alam court tomorrow. – March 12, 2023.
