AMANAH’S Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan has admitted he is constantly boisterous in the Dewan Rakyat because he wants to get his message across to the government.

The first-time lawmaker said he wants the issues affecting the people to be heard.

“I don’t pretend (when voicing out issues), that’s Sany… That’s my approach. I want to be heard (in the Dewan Rakyat),” he told The Malaysian Insight in an interview.

“That is what’s most important. I want the government to take note of issues that I raise such as floods, roadworks and lack of classrooms.”

In one such loud moment, Sany was at the receiving end of Arau MP Shahidan Kassim, who is now with the opposition Perikatan Nasional.

Last week, Shahidan referred to him as a “kera” (monkey) in the Dewan Rakyat, a remark Sany said was uncalled for.

“He (Shahidan) is a senior politician, a former minister and has a standing,” said the 44-year-old Sany, who is also the Taman Templer assemblyman in Selangor.

“He should be setting a good example for first-time MPs. Don’t use words that hurt people.

“If he wants to get angry or wants to scold someone, he can use proper words and not negative ones.”

Last week, a shouting match erupted in the Dewan Rakyat when Shahidan uttered the word “kera” in referring to Sany when debating Budget 2023.

Shahidan said the newbie parliamentarian “has a worse temper than a monkey in the jungle”.

Sany intervened and insisted Shahidan retracted the unparliamentary word.

Shahidan responded by saying he had only asked Sany not to behave like a monkey in the jungle.

Sany said he had never attacked anyone personally by using harsh words or calling names.

“Use words that can be accepted by everyone,” he said as a reminder to his fellow lawmakers.

He also urged the watching public not to follow the bad examples.

“We hope that the public will not look at the black marks (in the Dewan Rakyat) but the positive ones. Look at the issues that we are trying to raise with the government,” he said. – March 9, 2023.
