CLOTHING traders in Kota Tinggi who have suffered hundreds of thousands in losses are offering bargains sales for as low as RM5-10 per item.

Trader Noor Shafina Naim, 21, said waist level floodwaters had submerged hundreds of her clothing items such as Baju Kurung and Baju Melayu, with losses estimated at RM300,000.

The bargain sale, she said, would help her recover some of her losses.

According to Shafina, this was one of the worst floods to affect her father’s shop which had been operating for the past 20 years.

“This area often gets flooded. In 2006, this shop was completely submerged, and last year around this time, we were tested yet again,” she said.

Meanwhile, Noriah Abd Rahman, 40, said many clothing items, including those for Hari Raya, were damaged by floods.

“I have lost almost RM100,000, with only some clothing items that were saved from flood damage. I haven’t had time to make a total count of how many items are spoiled. I usually offer bargain sales for as low as RM5.

“The pavement of the shop was also damaged due to the flood, so I hope the authorities can help, if not, I may have to use my own capital,” said Noriah, who has been trading in the area since 2007.

A Bernama survey found most of the traders beginning to clean their premises after the floods, which began on Wednesday, and started receding last night.

The water level had reached up to a metre high over the past two days, with almost 90% of traders affected. – Bernama, March 5, 2023.
