MALAYS will have a bleak future as “others” have dominated the economy, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said after joining Putra, Free Malaysia Today reports.
Dr Mahathir also said that Malays were taking a back seat in politics.
“That’s why before I die, I will work for my race.
“Call me racist, but Malays are now left behind after giving way to foreigners,” he said while explaining his decision to join Putra.
Last week, Dr Mahathir Mohamad and 12 other former Pejuang members had joined Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra).
In a Facebook post, former Pejuang central executive committee member Armin Baniaz Pahamin confirmed that the ex-members had signed with Putra.
Armin said Dr Mahathir joined Putra to continue his political struggle.
Dr Mahathir also said that there are fears that there could be changes in electoral boundaries resulting in the number of Malay-majority seats being reduced.
“And if there are fewer Malay-majority areas, there is a chance for others to exert influence on the government,” he said.
Dr Mahathir and 12 other members quit Pejuang in early February after the party decided to quit the Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) coalition it had formed ahead of the general election.
Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir said their decision to quit GTA was made after taking into account the views put forth during the party’s general assembly.
Pejuang was established by Dr Mahathir in August 2020, following his ousting from Bersatu.
He stepped down as chairman in December last year after the party’s miserable performance in the November general election, in which every Pejuang candidate lost their deposit. – March 1, 2023.
