DAP leaders will declare their assets only when they are appointed government officials, said DAP national publicity secretary Tony Pua.

“Once we become state executive councillors, once we become ministers, we must and we will declare our assets.

“This is DAP’s stand,”  the Petaling Jaya Utara MP told reporters during a press conference at the media centre in Parliament today.

Pua was asked to comment on yesterday’s asset declaration by some potential election candidates from Pakatan Harapan.

A total of 103 would-be election candidates have signed on to PKR-linked research body Invoke Malaysia’s initiative to declare their assets. Last year, 27 politicians inked the deal.

The candidates also pledged to pursue a reform agenda if elected.

Under the terms of the agreement, the candidates will each have to pay Invoke RM20 million if they fail to honour the contract.

Among the big-name politicians who signed on with Invoke yesterday were Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin, former Kuala Selangor MP Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, former Perak menteri besar Nizar Jamaluddin, former Penang speaker Abdul Halim Hussain, and PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil.

Invoke said the declarations of assets were accessible on its website. – March 14, 2018.
