THE Agriculture and Food Security Ministry will overcome the problem of labour shortage, which is one of the contributing factors to the low supply of chicken eggs ahead of Ramadan and Aidilfitri, its minister Mohamad Sabu said.
He said to address the matter, his ministry, together with the Home Ministry and the Human Resources Ministry, are working to increase the number of workers in the agricultural sector as well as other sectors.
“My ministry is dealing with it (the problem of chicken egg supply). Indeed every time before a festival, the consumption of chicken eggs is higher. This problem of egg shortage is also faced by other countries.
“The concern remains, as soon as Ramadan comes, the use of eggs and other ingredients will increase. That’s why we have to have discussions with egg suppliers to double production starting now.
“If they don’t have enough workers, we will try to provide an easy way to increase workers. The main problem for entrepreneurs besides the increase in food prices is the lack of workers,” he told reporters after officiating the International Conference on Palestine Kuala Lumpur 2023 today.
Mohamad said this in response to media reports about the complaints by cake makers who are worried that their businesses would be affected by a shortage of chicken eggs ahead of Aidilfitri. – Bernama, February 11, 2023.
