SIX tourists died and eight others were injured after the van they were travelling in was involved in an accident at KM4.8 of Jalan Genting Highlands-Kuala Lumpur this afternoon. 

The incident happened around 1.15pm.

A spokesman for the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department in Pahang confirmed that the accident resulted in the death of six victims.  

“The firemen acted to remove the trapped victims using rescue equipment before handing over the injured individuals to the medical team. 

“All the injured victims were sent to a nearby hospital for further treatment, while the dead were handed over to the police for further action,” he said. 

According to him, of the deceased, five were women.   

All the victims are understood to be local tourists from Penang. 

“Eight more victims suffered injuries, with two of them sent to Bentong Hospital, while six were taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital,” he said. – February 8, 2023.
