FORMER PAS leader Mahfuz Omar today denied that he doubted the unity of Pakatan Harapan, saying that there were no cracks in the opposition coalition, which he had been openly supporting.

The Pokok Sena MP said PH is solid and it is led by a “true statesman” in Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has set aside old political vengeance for the sake of the country and its people.

“(This is why) Barisan Nasional and Umno are afraid of PH,” he said today in his WhatsApp chat group with the media.

Mahfuz was responding to a picture of him circulating on social media that carried the quote “Saya sendiri tidak tahu akan bertanding atau tidak, Pakatan Harapan terlalu rapuh.” (I myself don’t know if I am contesting or not. Pakatan Harapan is too fragile.)

He said the message was fake and he never thought of PH as fragile.

“I don’t know if I will contest or not (in the coming election). Running in the election is not my goal.

“The important thing is I am definitely helping PH campaign and win the election to take over power from BN,” he said.

Mahfuz was once Kedah PAS commissioner. He also served the party as vice-president and national information chief.

He recently announced his departure from the Islamist party, where he was a member for 34 years. His wife and daughter also joined him in leaving the party.

He had been disappointed that PAS would not join PH to fight BN in the next polls.

He has yet to join any PH party, although he had been supporting the component parties in recent years. – March 13, 2018.
