THERE will be discussions with Umno before any decision is made to accept their former members into PKR, Anwar Ibrahim said today.

Although some have expressed keen interest to join PKR, party president Anwar said that no decision had yet been made.

“We have not made any decisions yet.

“We take note that some ex-Umno members expressed intention to join (PKR). We will discuss this with Umno leaders,” Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan chairman, said in a press conference at party headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

Earlier last week, former Umno supreme council member Zahidi Zainul Abidin, who was sacked from the Malay-based party in November last year, said he wanted to join PKR and alleged that several members from the party’s Padang Besar division were also keen to do so.

Zahidi also claimed that “several other” Umno leaders were set to join PKR.

PKR’s communication director Lee Chean Chung then said that the party had not received any application from former or current Umno leaders.

He, however, said if there were any applications from Umno leaders, it would be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Yesterday, it was reported that Zahidi was considering joining Amanah, after having received negative feedback to his earlier comments on wanting to join PKR.

He said the grassroots in Padang Besar had suggested he join Amanah to stand a better chance at helping the constituents, especially when it came to the agriculture sector. – February 6, 2023.
