CABINET members have been ordered to look into the recommendations made by the auditor-general on matters related to their ministries, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said today.

Referring to the 2021 Auditor-General’s Report, Anwar said the mistakes it details are ones that persistently recur.

“The ministers, during the cabinet meeting, have been asked to give attention to the remarks by the auditor-general on expenditures, leakages and failure to adhere to regulations.

“This time the cabinet has been asked to seriously look into the matter (suggestions by auditor-general) so the mistakes are not repeated,” Anwar said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

He said the report usually contains recommendations on how to rectify the problems.

“The auditor-general sometimes gives recommendations, but the mistakes continue to happen year-after-year,” he added.

Anwar said the report will be tabled at the parliament session beginning February 13.

Anwar also said the cabinet heard a proposal to appoint more High Court judges for Sabah and Sarawak.

He said the suggestion was made after taking into consideration the growing number of court cases in the states. – January 18, 2023.
