A CIVIL servant has been arrested in connection with the theft of items belonging to the victims of the Batang Kali landslide, Selangor acting police chief Sasikala Devi said.
She said the 27-year-old suspect was arrested yesterday and that police were in the midst of remanding the person.
“We also seized items believed to be the belongings of the victims during the arrest,” she said today at Ampang Jaya police headquarters.
On January 2, Hulu Selangor district police chief Suffian Abdullah said the cops were probing a Facebook claim that a Touch ‘n Go card belonging to one of the Batang Kali landslide victims had been used by a stranger.
“Police received two reports of the incident. A file has been opened on the case for theft,” he said.
Suffian advised the landslide survivors to contact the police if they suspect their belongings had been stolen amid the activity following the December 16 landslide at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite.
Thirty-one people, 12 of them children, were killed in the disaster. – January 6, 2023.
