THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed it has opened an investigation paper on the alleged misappropriation of RM600 billion of public funds.

In a statement, the anti-graft organisation said it will conduct a thorough, transparent and professional probe into alleged irregularities in the spending of RM600 billion of national funds.

The misappropriation is alleged to have taken place during the administration of Muhyiddin Yassin when the country was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The MACC also appealed to anyone who has any information, evidence or related documents, to go to the nearest MACC office to submit their information.

It said if necessary, they could dispatch one of their officers to collect the information or documents.

The controversy began on November 15 when former Malacca chief minister Adly Zahari accused the then government of misappropriating RM600 billion from the Covid-19 emergency fund.

Hulu Langat MP Sany Hamzan and Umno Supreme Council member Ishan Jalil have called for an inquiry to look into the RM600 billion expenditure under Muhyiddin’s administration.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he would leave it to the appropriate authorities to look into the issue.

According to Anwar, the Finance Ministry has acknowledged several breaches involving the fund.

Muhyiddin had said he was not afraid to be investigated over the allegations.

The Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman said it was baseless to accuse him of such wrongdoing and claimed that not a single sen of the monetary aid for the public entered his personal account.

“Not a single sen went into my personal account. It doesn’t make sense that the aid funds directly deposited into people’s accounts can be diverted to my account,” he said in a Facebook post today.

“If it happened, it would have definitely been discovered through the audit findings by the National Audit Department (NAD), which is made every year.

“Even the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) would surely have presented a report in parliament. It was impossible for NAD and PAC to overlook it. This is not a small matter,” the Bersatu president added. –  December 8, 2022.
