PAS splinter party Amanah will contest state seats in Kelantan that the Islamist party has won by a large majority.
Amanah vice-president Husam Musa said that had always been the plan for the party in the state governed by PAS.
“Amanah has to contest and win the state seats where PAS has a huge majority. Amanah is happy because it is our task,” said Husam at a press conference at the party office in Kuala Lumpur, today.
He said Amanah was considered a leading party in the east coast state, which was why it had been accorded more seats in Kelantan compared with the other component parties of Pakatan Harapan.
Husam, who is Kelantan PH chairman, said Pasir Pekan, Meranti, and Tanjong Mas were among the seats Amanah would.contest.
He declined to reveal more, saying the PH presidential council would announce the number of seats his party had been allocated in the next general election.
“Kelantan is special because PAS rules the state.
“That is why Amanah is given the opportunity to surpass others (in PH in number of seats) because we are going to contest seats that are PAS strongholds.”
He said he was not gloating over the larger allocation of seats for Amanah in Kelantan, but was rooting for an overall victory for the opposition pact in the state.
“It’s fine if another component party wins. But I would be disappointed if the opponent wins, especially Umno/Barisan Nasional,” he said, adding that division of state seats in Kelantan was decided upon by all PH parties.
A source from Amanah said last month the party was confident of winning 20 of the 27 parliamentary seats it was contesting in the 14th general election, naming Kota Raja in Selangor and Kota Baru in Kelantan as “a sure bet”. β March 7, 2018.
