SARAWAK Premier Abang Johari Openg and the coalition he leads, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), said they have accepted the apology tendered by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke for “any statements made by any DAP leaders that offended the state government and the people of Sarawak”.

“I accept the apology with an open heart,” Abang Johari said at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters today.

Loke offered the apology when he met Abang Johari at his house in Kuching this morning.

Loke was accompanied by Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen and Pending assemblyman Violet Yong during the visit.

Not long after, the man at the centre of GPS’ fury with DAP, Lim Guan Eng, also offered his apology to Abang Johari and the state government for his past indiscretion.

“I apologise for my remarks that may have offended the Sarawak Premier and the GPS Sarawak state government,” he wrote in a statement posted on his Facebook.

Lim stated “the future of the country is more important” and asked for a fresh start “to cooperate together to preserve the diversity, inclusiveness and unity of our multi-racial and multi-cultural society as well as protect our Federal Constitution for the benefit of all in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak”.

Abang Johari said what was important in the apology was they “acknowledged their mistakes.”

“We were right all along and our politics are clean. Not like theirs (where) they simply shoot.”

The premier said while GPS and DAP might co-operate at federal level in the unity government to be assembled by Anwar Ibrahim, it does not change both parties relationship in the state.

“They are not part of our (state) government. They are still the opposition.” – November 24, 2022.
