PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has advised Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters to refrain from holding celebratory gatherings following the confirmation of Anwar Ibrahim as Malaysia’s 10th prime minister.

This, he said, was to avoid any risks of provocation or statements issued by other political parties. 

“Be cautious of media statements issued by political figures.

“Be careful with any content on social media or short messages that may cause concern or be used as an excuse for provocation,” he posted on Twitter. 

Rafizi said the country must move forward and learn to cooperate to rebuild Malaysia for the sake of the future and prosperity of every Malaysian.

PH chairman Anwar is due to be sworn in as Malaysia’s 10th prime minister at 5pm today, according to Istana Negara.

Rafizi also hope that all PH supporters will respect the urgent need to defuse any situation as PH leaders have done during the negotiations for a unity government.

After days of political deadlock, it is understood that leaders have come to an agreement in which Anwar – after nearly 25 years in opposition – will take the top job.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Istana Negara at 5pm today. 

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke also similarly advised his party leaders at all levels not to organise any celebrations or vehicle convoys.

“The new incoming government is a unity government that consists of a number of political pacts.

“We need to work together and cooperate in assisting the prime minister steer the nation out of trouble,” he said in a statement. – November 24, 2022.
