PAKATAN Harapan (PH) is working to form a unity government with Barisan Nasional (BN) for the country’s stability, Anwar Ibrahim said.

The PH chairman also said he is still the prime ministerial candidate for the coalition.

“We had a discussion with BN. The most important issue is to create a stable government.

“I’m very optimistic that we will be able to form a government that’s more transparent and democratic to safeguard the interest of the rakyat,” he said at Seri Pacific hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

Anwar said BN asked for more time to discuss the issue of a coalition government under his leadership.

“It wants to go through the process of other meetings before it comes to a decision.”

The Tambun MP said he is pleased with the outcome of the two coalitions’ meeting.

Anwar said seven representatives from BN took part in the discussion with PH, among them, chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan, and Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who later left due to work commitments.

On whether BN is PH’s main partner to form a coalition and if there will be talks with Sabah and Sarawak, Anwar said BN is its choice for a main partner.

“We are not precluding anyone (Sabah, Sarawak). For now, the formal negotiations are with BN.”

On Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein claims that he will not support BN cooperating with PH, Anwar said there is no DAP or PH government, only a unity government.

“I believe that now he has revised his views. It remains to be seen.”

When asked about corruption charges and interference with the judiciary, Anwar said there was no reference at all (at the meeting) to current or anticipated charges.

“We did stress the importance of governance and unity, which was agreed upon, and the focus on the economy.

“They (corruption charges and judicial interference) were not raised at all at formal or informal meetings.

“The judiciary must be free. Don’t relate the courts’ processes with the executive (government).” – November 21, 2022.
