ANWAR Ibrahim has declared that he has the numbers to cobble together a federal government.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman made the claim minutes after Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said he too had the numbers.

Up to 4am, PH had won 81 seats.

“We have realised the fact that no party has attained a simple majority in Parliament.

“We have conducted a series of meetings and negotiations and as a result I wish to inform you that as a majority bloc we have managed to get the support of MPs to form the government with a simple majority,” Anwar told a press conference at Grand Dorsett Subang today.

However, he did not disclose which parties these lawmakers were from but could only speak for PH.

On Muhyiddin’s claim that PN could form the government, Anwar said it was impossible.

“We have entered into an understanding. What I’m saying is we now have the majority to form a government,” he said.

Earlier during a press conference, Muhyiddin said his coalition was confident of forming a federal government after securing 73 seats.

He claimed he had received a letter from the palace on what PN needed to do.

“We have received a letter from Istana Negara with specific instructions on the requirements we need to fulfil according to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.”

“We will have a meeting tomorrow and hope to have an answer by the evening. We will have to comply with Istana Negara’s instructions,” he told a press conference.

Muhyiddin said PN would not form a coalition government with PH after the general election concluded with a hung parliament as none of the three coalitions secured a simple majority of 112 seats.

“NO…no PH” was the PN chairman’s reply when asked if it would enter into a coalition with PH.

The Pagoh lawmaker said he would discuss things with the political parties in Sabah and Sarawak that had won in order to form a federal government. – November 20, 2022.
