THE rain was relentless but so was the burning anger at Mohamed Azmin Ali at Pakatan Harapan’s mega rally in the city last night. 

The fury was only matched by the massive support for his erstwhile chief, Anwar Ibrahim to be Malaysia’s next prime minister after Saturday. 

The rally was the last chance for many to watch and listen to PH leaders speak in the Klang Valley before election day. 

More than 2,000 crammed the courtyard of the Keramat AU2 multipurpose hall for the rally because the adjoining football field had been dirtied by Azmin’s Perikatan Nasional rally on Monday night. 

This was ground zero of the battle for the Gombak parliamentary seat that Azmin had held for Anwar’s PKR since the 2008 election. But he was sacked for his role in the Sheraton Move that collapsed the PH government under Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2020.

Most speakers directed their ire at Azmin, asking the voters to kick him out of Gombak and bury his political career. 

That tirade began with Amanah president Mohamed Sabu and ended with Anwar who came on stage at 11.30pm to deliver his spiel. 

In between, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, who is facing Azmin for the Gombak seat, spoke of the support PKR had given Azmin to keep him in power all these years only to be betrayed in 2020.

He promised to not to betray the people and party’s trust, apart from taking up education issues if elected to the Dewan Rakyat and PH becomes the government led by Anwar. 

But the night belonged to Anwar as at least three speakers described what would happen on November 19 if PH won the election. 

That Anwar would be told they won and police cars with lit blue beacons would invite him to have an audience with the king and made prime minister. 

Anwar himself did not speak about that but spent his 30 minutes on a weakening Barisan Nasional, a belligerent PN and Azmin, who was repeatedly called SiKitol, a traitor from the age of the Malacca Empire. 

The bottomline from this rally, which easily outnumbered those who attended the PN rally two days earlier, is simple

PH would be happy to see the end of Azmin and ecstatic to grab a majority of the 222 seats in parliament to form the government. – November 17, 2022.
