PAKATAN Harapan leaders were barred from using their purpose-built campaign lorry as the stage at a ceramah in Taiping, Perak, last night.

Owing to the police ban, organisers had to bring in a pick-up truck for its speakers, including 92-year-old former prime Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Despite the hiccup, some 3,000 and 4,000 people lined the road in front of Taiping Golf and Country Club to listen to the speeches.

“I was the prime minister for 22 years. It’s not my intention to be the prime minister again… 22 years is already enough.

“It’s the same with other Pakatan Harapan leaders. They are politicians but they are not in Pakatan Harapan because they want to be ministers,” said Dr Mahathir.

He said the four component parties in PH banded together because they are united by their common goal to remove the kleptocratic government led by Prime Minister Najib Razak.

“We are not doing this for ourselves. We believe Najib is ruining the country. That’s why we set aside our differences to form Pakatan Harapan to combine our strength to topple Najib,” said the PH chairman and designated prime minister.

PH deputy president Mohamad Sabu slammed police for preventing them from using the lorry as a their stage.

“If Jho Low’s yacht crosses the Malacca straits, dare the police arrest him?” asked Mohamad to shouts of “no” from the crowd.

He said this shows Najib is abusing the police to oppress the people rather than fight the country’s enemy.

Fugitive businessman Low’s luxury yacht was seized in Bali recently.

Mohamad said police could have handled the matter more professionally.

“We also applied (for a permit) for Lake Gardens, a larger place. We have many supporters. If we take over the government, we’ll revive democracy in Malaysia.”

PH president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said Najib and BN are arrogant and have no empathy for the suffering of ordinary folk.

“That’s why they are squeezing the people further with the goods and services tax (GST).

“They don’t feel the struggle and suffering of the people,” said the Permatang Pauh MP. – March 4, 2018.
