INCUMBENT Damansara MP Tony Pua tonight announced he will not be contesting in the coming general election.

He said that DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and Selangor DAP chief Gobind Singh Deo had tried to convince him to continue.

“But, it’s my decision alone, made years ago, to step down.

“I still believe in the cause. I still believe in change. Malaysians can still do it (win GE15),” he said at a DAP fundraising dinner in Kelana Jaya.

Pua said that he is not disappearing into the horizon as he is aware of his strength and weakness and will continue to help the party in its goals in the upcoming polls.

“I’m more than happy to contribute when we (Pakatan Harapan) become the government.

“I will be in thick of it again with DAP ministers to help out.”

Loke said that Pua had mentioned months ago he would not contest.

“But he will play a role in the party. We tried to convince him to stay back for the struggle, but it was his decision (to not contest).

“I can assure you it was not because of the party election results.

“He will help DAP behind the scenes. I must praise him as he is the most hardworking MP in parliament.” – October 26, 2022.
