THE Yang di-Pertuan Agong has advised all political party candidates and supporters to adopt a civil approach throughout the campaign period for the general election (GE).

In a statement issued today, Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the King also urged all candidates to compete in a healthy manner by avoiding offensive campaigns as well as complying with legal guidelines and regulations stipulated by the authorities, particularly the Election Commission and police.

“Avoid defaming, provoking, slandering and insulting by disparaging and belittling one another while campaigning,” the King said in a statement.

“The King also called on the people to pray for the GE to be held in a smooth and safe manner, and for the country to be blessed and protected from disasters and calamities.”

The King opined that good cooperation of all parties is very important in addition to respecting and upholding the judicial institutions, the system of parliamentary democracy and the constitutional monarchy by making political cooperation between parties more harmonious.

EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh at a press conference today announced that polling for the GE would be on November 19, while nomination is on November 5 and early voting on November 15.

The GE will involve all parliamentary seats throughout the country, with Perak, Pahang and Perlis holding their state elections simultaneously.
