SARAWAK students’ request for the state government to assist them to return and vote in the general election (GE) may run afoul of the election laws said Premier Abang Johari Openg.
“It was a request by students whether the government could give them assistance to come back and vote.”
“My reply was, we will consider,” he said at a press conference after opening the Borneo international water and wastewater exhibition and conference in Kuching today.
Abang Johari was referring to the request made at a town hall session with students studying in the peninsular during the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak (Lbas) programme held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre on Saturday.
He said the government has to study all possible implications whether it complies with or violates any election laws.
He also said he needs to consult with the other Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders on the matter.
Abang Johari said this at a press conference after officiating the Borneo International Water and Wastewater Exhibition and Conference (BIWWEC) in Kuching today. – October 18, 2022.
