SARAWAK police will have to make do with the personnel they have at their disposal to handle the general election and the monsoon if they were to happen at the same time, state commissioner Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said.

He said although he has been told that there will be no reinforcement in personnel from other states and have to make do with what he has, Sarawak police are ready for both.

He said 7,063 officers, men and women will be deployed for the general election with another 1,064 to assist other agencies in flood relief operations.

“We are professionals and with the experience gained from past elections, we will have to manage and get the job done,” Azman said told reporters in Kuching today.

“The police will always have to be ready for any circumstances. We just have to do our best and discharge our duty to the best of our ability.”

He said the details of where the personnel will be deployed will only be made after the Election Commission (EC) meets to decide on the election dates.

The EC is scheduled to meet on October 20 in Putrajaya. – October 13, 2022.
