PAKATAN Harapan (PH)today disputed Election Commission (EC) Selangor’s action in adding 28,416 military voters to the electoral roll after the objection period for the first quarter of the year had ended.

PH also claimed that EC also rejected 8,268 new voters last year.

PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar said the revelations were quite shocking considering the 14th general election could be held any time soon.

“What is EC Selangor’s excuse to reject the 8,268 applications?” she told the press outside EC Selangor’s office.

Nurul Izzah also asked why the majority of rejected voters, 7,304 out of 8,268, were from Selangor and why most of them are Chinese.

Relating to that, Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming announced that PH will be writing a letter to EC Selangor to seek clarification.

“We want EC Selangor to explain how this mess could have happened. It is as if EC is using the back door to bring in voters,” he said.

Speaking on the military voters, the DAP lawmaker said EC Selangor should have issued a press statement and listed out all names in the newspaper.

“However, that didn’t happen and instead the names were only found at EC Selangor’s office.

Nurul Izzah added that the 28,416 military voters are from the electoral roll posted by EC Selangor on May 25.

Attempts to reach EC Selangor for reactions have been unsuccessful. – May 31, 2017.
